The YES Performing Arts/Music Video Boot Camp is an intensive five-week youth development program that promotes life skills, anger management, job skills, team building, communication skills, and technology skills. The program ignites the passion of the participants by emulating the real world artistic and business environment of the entertainment industry. Throughout the process participants engage in counseling sessions and are mentored by qualified adult staff.
The five-week day camp will be held July 13 – August 15, at the YES Refuge Site and the Dr. Clarence V. Cuffee Community Center located in Chesapeake VA. The camp will run from 11am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Youth will actively participate in the Musical production of “I Have A Voice Within Me.” The project provides a dramatic look into the lives of several urban teenagers who face and overcome the challenges of drug and alcohol abuse, teen pregnancy, gang violence, and broken families. Additionally, the characters learn to deal with personal problems like feelings of alienation, loneliness, and relationship conflicts.
Twenty five (25) participants are challenged to grow in their ability to think creatively, write with heightened confidence, enhance their acting, TV and Music production skills. The youth will learn how to create powerful, positive media images as well as create the sound track for the musical production. The youths participate in a variety of writing and directing seminars, acting workshops, music production and dance sessions, and rehearsals that result in a Theatrical production. Woven through the fabric of the camp is a wonderful combination of creativity and education. Because of the high demands of the production environment, the camp includes ample time for the participants to wind down and interact with responsible adults. Recreational activities are geared toward team-building and include games and various field trips.
The 2009 YES TV/Film/Music Video Boot Camp is a partnership between Youth Entertainment Studios, Inc., Dr. Clarence V. Cuffee Community Center and Refuge Church of God in Christ serving middle school youth 13-17. Daily transportation, weekly field trips, 1 meal and snacks will be provided.
